Lush visit

Lush came to visit two of our Post-16 groups during their work related learning sessions. The staff from Lush helped the students to make bath bombs to sell at our Christmas Fayre.

Senegal Parrots Visit Beaucroft

In Lulworth class, we are learning about Animals and their habitats, as part of our Science topic.

Last week we had a visit from two Senegal parrots.  One is called Mango. He is 5-6 years old. He can talk, when he wants to. The second one is called Leo, she is about 27 years old. She doesn’t talk. They are both rescue parrots. They love to eat pellets, fruit, veg, seeds and nuts.

The children all enjoyed holding, stroking and having Leo sit on their shoulders. Mango stayed in his cage and the children looked at him through the cage.

The parrots come into school regularly. Both parrots and children enjoy the encounters.

The children enjoy learning about them and watching clips on the internet.

South Korean students visit Beaucroft

This week (Monday 8th October to Wednesday 10th October) we have had a group of South Korean students from WonJu City, come to visit us in school. There were 8 students, aged between 7 and 12 years old and 2 adults. They spent time in the following classes Lulworth, Edison, Braille, Brunel, Sharks, Turtles, Portland, Newton and the Seahorses came to see them too in Lulworth classroom.

The Koreans shared some traditional Korean music, food, chopsticks skills, crafts, games, skipping, clothes, sign language and some Korean words. Then the English classes did some activities for the Korean’s.

In Lulworth class we learned about traditional Korean life styles, houses, schools, life. We heard some Korean music, and learned some Korean sign language. They children taught our children some origami. We played some traditional English party games, like pass the parcel and musical statues. We went for a walk in the woods and played hide and seek. We made Jelly with our Korean friends and had some “English party food”. We shared reading books with our Korean friends.

The Korean visit links in with our topic next half term, which is Asia. So we learned lots of interesting facts ready for that topic.

The Korean’s said they had a very good time here and wished they could spend longer with us. They really enjoyed meeting us and interacting with us. They learned a lot about culture from us, and would like to visit again.

Lulworth Residential – Avon Tyrrell Activity Centre.

On Wednesday this week, Lulworth class loaded up the minibus and went off on our adventures to Avon Tyrrell Activity Centre.

On arrival we parked outside our lodge, then went off to do the zip wire that was 30ft high and 60ft along. We split into 2 groups.

The first group did the zip wire, the second group watched and supported their friends very well. Then we had our lunch and a play in the woods. After lunch the two groups swapped over. I am pleased to say that 8 out of our 9 children managed to complete the zip wire. But everyone made the staff very proud by at least attempting to take part. Some of the students couldn’t do it on the first attempt, but after thinking about it and watching their friends take part, they built up the courage to do it and were so pleased with themselves when they achieved it. We are very proud of them all.

Then we went to our lodge to make our beds, unpack, chill in front of the TV and had some pizza, garlic bread and cake.

We had a quick play in the park, before glasses of milk and getting ready for bed.
After a restless nights sleep, we had showers, made our breakfasts, packed our suitcases, loaded up the minibus and set off for Longdown Farm. Some of the students fell asleep on the way.

At the farm we fed baby calves, held baby chicks and guinea pigs, saw lots of animals, had lunch and an ice cream, played in the park and visited the shop to buy a little something with our spending money.

We then returned to school in time to go home and see our families.

Lulworth class – Learning To Tell the Time

Last week Lulworth class were learning to tell the time (O’clock only), we thought it would be fun to make it practical, so we made a big circle using rope. We asked the children to put the numbers in the right place, then we took it in turns to roll two dice then the children had to use themselves as the hands on the clock. They had great fun and have asked to play the “clock game” again. Some of the children are using the markings on the playground to play the game at play-times.

Sports Relief – Active Sessions Postponed

Dear Parents,

On the advice of the Bounce Inflatables company, we will have to postpone the active sessions scheduled for tomorrow due to the weather and ground conditions. The sessions will now take place on Friday 20th April. We will still go ahead with sports non uniform tomorrow and all donations will be gratefully received, including the £2 for the activity zone. Sports non uniform may also be worn on Friday 20th April. Fingers crossed for no more ‘beasts from the east’. Apologies for the disruption.
